Fluorite on Quartz
Huanggang Fe-Sn deposit, Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, China
Lustrous, sparkling milky quartz crystals with stepped growth on prism faces are host to modified octahedral fluorite crystals reaching 2cm across. The fluorite displays subtle colour variations with purple-green internal zoning and a yellowish tint to the outermost layer. This outer layer is a stepped cubic overgrowth giving a frosted look, while square faces at vertices form windows into the transparent flourite cores. There is also a second generation of smaller milky quartz crystals. In excellent condition with no damage; a fracture near the base formed during mineral growth and has re-sealed. Fascinating specimen, highly three dimensional and great aesthetics from all angles.
