Cuprite with Malachite and Chrysocolla

Mashamba West Mine, Kolwezi District, Katanga, Democratic Rep. of Congo

Size 3.9x2.6x2.6cm

Price £60

Attractive miniature comprising almost entirely cuprite with well developed modified octahedral crystals reaching 5mm across the top and front of the specimen. The cuprite is a deep red with strong red internal reflections and a bright sub-metallic lustre. A number of the crystals have contact areas but this doesn't detract from the overall aesthetics. Microcrystalline spherical malachite and thin crusts of chrysocolla are scattered over much of the specimen providing an attractive colour contrast. A pleasing specimen, hard to accurately capture in photographs and better in person.
